The Black Tulip

The tulips are in the stores if not the gardens as yet. My brother was born in Holland and when times were tough I believe my mother worked in the  tulip fields for extra cash, so this oddly exotic looking flower has interesting memories attached.

This image was inspired by the novel; La Tulipe Noire by Alexandre Dumas. I saw some perfectly white tulips and thought about the elusive black tulip back in the day of Holland's craze for tulips. The story is not as exciting as some of his others, but the passion for the tulip and alchemy involved with making the black one is really rather splendid! Have you read the book?
